This is a monumental public sculpture of a passenger plane mounted nose down. This work is simultaneously tragic (referencing the loss of life in plane crashes) and hopeful (the shape is reminiscent of large crosses often placed in rural landscapes of the American South).
This version of the work consists of silver foil word balloons floating approx 12 feet above ground creating a plane between the ground and sky reading “EVERY FLIGHT IS PRAYED FOR”.
For this work, I propose to release a single yellow canary in an empty gallery. The flight of the bird activates the space and creates a constantly changing aesthetic moment.
The pure yellow canary is a kind of artwork, bread for aesthetics and sound rather than practical purpose.
in an alternate version, I would release this canary in a gallery of other works. The bird’s interaction with the works recontextualizes their use (as landing points).
The floor of the room is covered in rock speakers. As the viewer moves through the space, their motion causes the speakers to play yells from rock/metal singers.
Arena is a public space created by cutting and arranging bleachers into a square. The interior of the space mimics an inverted ziggurat. This is a space for communal gatherings, performances, etc.
